HRI's Newtown Research Facility makes the finals for the Marrickville Medal
The Heart Research Institute’s new international standard research facility was named a finalist in the 2010 Marrickville Medal for conservation recognising the centre as one of the best examples of built heritage in the area.
HRI’s Eliza Street facility was shortlisted for its excellent contribution to the streetscape, retention of original elements including the front façade, the sympathetic additions and interiors.
HRI’s Director, Dr Philip Barter, said the designers had created a world standard scientific research facility.
"This building provides our researchers with state of the art, highly functional research space which is on par with what you would expect to find in the best research facilities in the United States."
"The HRI previously operated in cramped, sub-standard facilities, but our new facility provides researchers with an effective, efficient and comfortable environment to work in while maintaining the architectural heritage of the original building."
"We are proud to offer this facility as a research space for scientists working in the heart research field."
The facility, which was completed on time and below budget, has helped the HRI expand research targets and support ongoing breakthroughs in heart health.
