Leave a Gift in your Will to the Heart Research Institute.
A Gift in your Will to the Heart Research Institute provides important funds to develop research projects that would otherwise not be possible. Your Will doesn’t need to be complicated – it just needs to reflect your wishes. The most important people you should consider are your loved ones. Once you have provided for them, consider nominating the Heart Research Institute as an additional benefactor.
Gifts in Wills, both large and small, play a vital role in funding crucial research at the Heart Research Institute. They provide a lasting contribution in advancing our understanding of cardiovascular disease, helping prevent, detect and treat cardiovascular disease for generations to come.
You can make a start by looking at our Gifts in Wills booklet.

Why I left a Gift in my Will: Leonie's story
“It’s nice to know I can continue helping people after I’ve gone. I hope my gift can help make life better for future generations.”
More than most, Leonie Bezzina knows the heavy toll that heart disease can take on a family. She lost both her parents to cardiovascular diseases and has lived for years with a heart condition herself.
And in 1991, at 57, her husband Gaetano had a serious heart attack. Thankfully, a revolutionary blood thinner was available at the time, which helped keep Gaetano’s heart pumping. He made a full recovery and has enjoyed many more years with Leonie, their children and their grandchildren. Leonie knows that without heart research, these years may have been stolen from them.
“We’ve come a long way, and there are really good treatments out there now. My husband is living proof. People talk about the good old days, but what they forget is people died younger back then.”
When Leonie decided to leave a compassionate gift in her Will to the Heart Research Institute, it was her family that was at the forefront of her mind.
“I have twelve grandchildren, and with our family history, some of them will likely be predisposed to heart attacks. I hope my gift will help find better treatments for them and other people in the community.”
Hearts for Eternity
Hearts for Eternity legacy club
If you choose to leave a Gift in your Will to the HRI, you will be provided with the opportunity to join our Hearts for Eternity legacy club. Hearts for Eternity members are generous benefactors who provide the long-term funding needed to uncover scientific breakthroughs.
Through this club, we seek to recognise the generosity of our supporters, by providing opportunities for you to tour our laboratories and see our research first hand, and to attend special functions to meet our researchers and other Australians who share your vision of a future without heart disease.
The Hearts for Eternity sculpture
Pictured: Ken Pearce, Dr Anna Waterhouse, Dr Stephen Hollings
The Heart Research Institute unveiled the beautiful Hearts for Eternity sculpture at our annual Chairman’s Christmas Brunch in 2016. This artwork, which is now a permanent fixture here in the foyer of the HRI, is a tribute to the generosity of the many people who have left a Gift in their Will to the HRI.
This piece of art has been created by well-known metal artist, Ken Pearce. It portrays the heart and circulatory system. Each gift we receive will be dedicated a special crafted heart with the benefactor’s name inscribed and added to the sculpture for posterity. Any requests to remain anonymous will be respected.
