Fundraise in your community, donate blood or attend one of our events.

There are many ways, big and small, you can support the Heart Research Institute. We've listed them below.

Workplace giving

Giving through your pre-tax salary is a simple, effective tax-free way to give. Plus, every day that you go in to work, you can feel proud that you are also working towards preventing and curing heart disease.

What is workplace giving?

Workplace giving is where you give a regular donation from your pre-tax pay, managed through payroll. Provided you are employed, it should be possible for you to support HRI via workplace giving, although the set-up will vary from employer to employer.

Does your employer already have a workplace giving scheme?

Many companies have a workplace giving scheme in place, and some incentivise this by offering to match or top up the donations you make. Companies will either manage their workplace giving in-house or through a provider.

Please check with your HR department whether they use a provider, or manage workplace giving in-house.

  • If your company uses a provider: HRI is already registered with Good2Give and Good Company. If your company uses one of these providers, you will be able to support HRI through your company’s existing platform. If your company uses a different provider, please contact us, and we can investigate setting up the HRI with your company’s provider.
  • If your company manages workplace giving in-house: Please put the relevant member of your HR department in touch with us, and we will then work together to get you set up and donating to the HRI.

If there no workplace giving scheme in place

Please let your HR department know that you would like to support the HRI in this way. We can offer step-by-step support to HR and Finance departments to set up workplace giving donations on a case-by-case basis. To access this support, please contact us.

Donate blood for research

By making a blood donation, you can help our research into preventing heart attacks and strokes.

The Thrombosis Group is currently calling on blood donations to continue our vital research into the investigation of new anti-clotting approaches to prevent heart attack and stroke.

"We need a donor a day at the moment to do all the testing needed to advance this exciting research," says researcher Jessica Maclean. "We're even able to accept some donors who are not able to donate to the Red Cross Blood Bank service."

Blood donors must be aged 18 and 60 years, and not currently taking anti-clotting or anti-inflammatory medication including aspirin and ibuprofen. Donors give between 50 and 200ml of blood per donation, with collections held at the Charles Perkins Centre at The University of Sydney in Camperdown. Donors will receive reimbursement for their travel or parking costs.
