HRI’s work experience programs offer high school students the opportunity to experience working at a medical research facility.

Your experience will start with a general health and safety induction, followed by an opportunity to meet your host team members. During your time with HRI, you will get to experience our facilities at 7 Eliza Street, Newtown or at the Charles Perkins Centre, The University of Sydney. You will be largely based at one of these locations.

During the week, you will join a variety of research groups to experience day-to-day life, from lab meetings through to lab experience. You will observe and learn about HRI’s state-of-the-art equipment and research methods and get to spend some time in our laboratory, seeing our researchers at work, and in some cases (where safe/appropriate) help with certain experimental procedures. You will also get the opportunity to join HRI’s weekly science seminar, presented by HRI researchers and national/international speakers from diverse backgrounds in science, medicine and biomedical engineering.
