It was with great sadness that researchers and staff at the Heart Research Institute (HRI) learned of the passing of HRI board member, Professor Josette Eris. Josette was a respected and admired member of the HRI board, who contributed greatly to medical research throughout her career.
An esteemed transplant physician at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Josette launched her career in the field of basic immunology proceeding to become a pioneer for women in transplantation. She will be sorely missed by HRI board members, colleagues and the greater scientific community, for whom she provided tremendous guidance and support.
Josette served on the HRI board from 28 May 2008 – 14 April 2016.
The Chairman of the HRI Board, Dr Stephen Hollings, paid tribute to Josette’s contribution, describing her as "a diligent Governor determined to ensure the highest quality of scientific research, championing research that could be translated to improved patient outcomes. She was an inspiration, particularly to female medical researchers."
Josette’s life and contribution was celebrated by family, friends and colleagues at a Memorial Eucharist at St James Church on May 14.
