HRI proudly celebrates ‘World Heart Day’ each year as an opportunity for people across the globe to take part in the world's biggest intervention against cardiovascular disease (CVD).
World Heart Day is an initiative from the World Heart Federation, focusing this year on creating healthy heart environments.
By ensuring that everyone has the chance to make healthy heart choices wherever they live, work and play, World Heart Day encourages us all to reduce our cardiovascular risk, and promotes a heart-healthy planet for those around us.
Here are some sobering statistics:
Cardiovascular disease is Australia’s (and the world’s) number one killer.
In Australia 125 people die from cardiovascular disease per day…1 death every 12 minutes).
Cardiovascular disease affects 2 out of 3 Australian families.
Risk factors for cardiovascular disease remain high: over 60% of Australians are now overweight and only 1 in 3 people get sufficient daily exercise.
For these reasons (and more) cardiovascular disease is one of the world’s most pressing health problems... and it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
As you can see…. Hearts Matter! So make a change this World Heart Day.
