HRI’s Prof Andrew Coats named as Australia’s top cardiology researcher

Posted 13th November, 2023

The Heart Research Institute’s Scientific Director and CEO Prof Andrew Coats AO has been recognised as Australia’s top researcher in cardiology for the second year running.

The accolade was given by The Australian newspaper in its annual special report, the 2024 Research Magazine.

The report celebrates the country’s top researchers and research institutions in 250 fields of research, including health and medical sciences.

The recognition of Prof Coats as Australia’s top researcher in cardiology was determined by a detailed analysis to come up with his “impact score” – the highest number of citations by researchers for papers published in the top 20 journals in cardiology over the past five years.

The impact score takes into account both the quality of the research (by examining only top journals in the field) and the impact of the research (judged by the number of citations).
