Biography
Dr Christopher Stanley is Leader of the Microvascular Research Unit at HRI and University of Sydney Research Affiliate.
Born in the United Kingdom, Dr Stanley completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology and Physiology at Leeds Metropolitan University with a first class honours and was awarded ‘Best Dissertation and Best Lab Project’ for his work in cannabinoid pharmacology. This was followed by doctoral studies in the same subject at the University of Nottingham, obtaining his PhD in 2013. Following this, he focused his interest on the project ‘Human microvascular structure and function’ at the University of Oxford with the laboratory of Professors Kim Dora and Chris Garland.
After moving to Australia in 2014, Dr Stanley joined Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and worked in the laboratory of Prof Roland Stocker on the project ‘Regulation of vascular tone through ID01 mediated vasorelaxation’. In his appointment, Dr Stanley was awarded a Society for Free Radical Research Young Investigator Award, a Sydney Cardiovascular Symposium Rising Star Award and the UNSW St Vincent’s Clinical School Publication of the Year Award.
In August 2020, Chris joined HRI to start and lead the Microvascular Research Unit.
