Federico Di Tolla

Master's Student

Biography

Federico Di Tolla is a Master’s student in Biomedical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome and a member of the Cardiovascular Regeneration Group at the Heart Research Institute (HRI), under the supervision of Associate Professor Carmine Gentile.

In collaboration with HRI, he is undertaking his thesis project focused on the development of innovative 3D biofabrication strategies for the creation of implantable cardiac patches, aiming to enhance their structural integration and functional support in cardiac regenerative medicine.

His research places particular emphasis on the vascularisation of cardiac organoids and engineered tissues to improve their survival, maturation, and long-term functionality following implantation. By integrating advanced biofabrication approaches with vascular network engineering, his work seeks to overcome current limitations related to nutrient diffusion, oxygen supply, and graft-host integration.

Through this multidisciplinary approach, he aims to contribute to the development of more physiologically relevant and clinically translatable cardiac constructs, supporting the advancement of regenerative therapies for heart disease.
