Lachlan O’ Connell

Research Intern

Biography

Lachlan O’Connell is an Honours student studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and a research intern of the Cardiovascular Regeneration Group at the Heart Research Institute (HRI), under the supervision of Associate Professor Carmine Gentile.

His work is focused on the development of cardiac bioreactor systems for in-vitro testing of 3D bioprinted cardiovascular patches. He will be focusing on finite element analysis and biocompatible adhesion and integration of the system to ensure compatibility with in-vivo conditions and the development of standard operating procedures for the use of 3D bioprinted patches within the bioreactor system.

The goal of this work is to develop a cardiovascular bioreactor system which can replicate various cardiovascular conditions and disease models to be used in the development and testing of 3D printed cardiovascular patches.
