Dr Chia-Chi Liu

Senior Research Fellow

Biography

Dr Liu is a Senior Research Fellow and Molecular Biologist with expertise in oxidative protein chemistry at University of Sydney. She was a Biochemistry Lecturer in Taipei Medical University Taiwan. Dr Liu completed MSc in Cell and Molecular Biology at Taipei Medical University Taiwan, followed by second MSc in Biotechnology, University of New South Wales. She then completed her PhD within the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Science, Macquarie University.

Dr Liu’s research interests are to translate fundamental molecular discoveries made in the laboratory, into novel pharmaceutical therapies and treatment strategies for heart failure; to establish novel oxidative stress biomarkers to diagnose and monitor the progression of cardiovascular disease and pregancy-related disorders; and to pioneer therapeutic proteins to improve cancer treatments. Her work is driven by a desire to translate complex molecular discoveries into simple, scalable solutions - particularly in the area of maternal cardiovascular health.

Dr Liu has awarded a Australian National Heart Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship and Sydney University Research Support Fellowship; and is the inventor for an innovative Australian patent in diagnostic technology.

As Head of the Cardiac Membrane Biology Laboratory, she has led over 25 interdisciplinary projects spanning basic discovery and clinical translation, often in collaboration with Denmark-based clinical trials. In 2025, she was selected as a Mentor in the Franklin Women Mentoring Programme, a structured national initiative to advance women’s careers in science.
