Dr Kristina Cook

PhD
Visiting Scientist

Biography

Dr Cook’s collaboration with Dr Melissa Farnham and Dr John O’Sullivan focuses on understanding how hypoxia from obstructive sleep apnoea negatively affects the heart to lead to cardiovascular diseases like heart failure.

Hypoxia, or low oxygen, can occur in the heart during cardiovascular disease (ischemia, heart failure) and in diseases associated with cardiovascular disease (obstructive sleep apnoea). Cellular oxygen sensing pathways in the heart coordinate the response to low oxygen, and they can be beneficial or harmful depending on the circumstance.
