Biography

Professor Jing Sun is a Distinguished Professor and Chair of Biostatistics at Charles Sturt University and a Visiting Professor at the University of Technology Sydney. An internationally recognised expert in biostatistics, mental health, and chronic disease research, she leads large-scale randomised controlled trials and cohort studies targeting cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and mental disorders, with a focus on lifestyle-based rehabilitation and cognitive behavioural therapy.

Her research also spans maternal and child health, birth defect prevention, and global burden of disease analytics. A pioneer in health inequality research, Prof Sun applies advanced data science—including multilevel modelling, Bayesian analysis, S16 sequencing, neuroimaging, and machine learning—to large-scale health datasets across global, regional, and national contexts.

Prof Sun has secured over AUD $9.5 million in research funding in the past four years, published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, and supervised over 25 PhD students to completion. She has held leadership roles across multiple scientific societies and editorial boards and currently serves as the elected Distinguished Fellow and Board President of the International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI). Her work continues to influence global health strategies and translational outcomes in chronic disease and mental health care.
